- 6.21 elevating the everyday
may the flowers remind us why the rain was necessary Hi. After a month of slowing down and playing the waiting game we are finally here in a new month and settling into our life as mom and dad. We are working on getting used to the swing of things, finding our own new schedules and getting to know Callan. This has been the best time of our lives. We are tired, my body hurts, nothing really fits but our hearts are so full. With a new month comes new celebrations and wonderful things to look forward to. I am trying to keep my expectations low for all that I want to do and remember to soak up and cherish this fleeting time. Things to celebrate this month: 20 Fathers Day + the first day of summer Just for fun: 4 National Donut Day 10 National Ice Tea Day 14 National Bourbon Day *clearly a Brandon favorite* Local: 4 Pataskala Farmers Market begins 5 Autumn Rush Vineyard opens! *Seek-No-Further Cidery in Granville to open *Strawberry picking at Hendren Farm in Johnstown Now that we have a baby life is a constant adjustment. - Nursery update
Check out my post here about designing this sweet nursery for our baby boy. So like I mentioned in my other post, I knew I wanted to add moulding to the walls to elevate the style of this room and flow with the rest of the millwork in our home! In the process of painting the walls. Goodbye stenciled wall! I honestly loved the stencil wall, it was such an easy DIY that made such a fun impact! But I knew it was time for something new! Wallpaper can be a challenge in itself, but when hanging it on a ceiling, that is a whole new level of challenging. Especially at 6 months pregnant! But I am loving how this is turning out so far! This wallpaper adds so much interest that I know not only I will enjoy but our little man will love looking up at. 26 weeks with our little man! We were so grateful to be finished with hanging his wallpaper. It was such a challenge but completely worth it! We hung up his clouds that I DIYed. Check out that post here! I used small brass cup hooks that I found at Hobby Lobby to hang his clouds. This just feels like such a sweet corner to look up at. His crib is situated on this wall so it is something he gets to look at. We still have a lot left to do, touch up painting, deep cleaning and then of course.. decorating!! Stay tuned for the final reveal! :) Cloud Wallpaper Wall Paint color: Sherwin Williams Halcyon Green Cloud DIY tutorial: here Cup hooks to hang clouds xx. kasey
- a week in photos | THE WAITING GAME
With one week left until baby is 100% due I am feeling so ready for his arrival. They aren't kidding when they say the last month is the longest. Here is my week in photos and the things that are getting me through this time of waiting and enjoying this last bit of belly . . . Currently listening to this playlist Sipping on Red Raspberry Leaf Tea, hoping it is helping move things along Enjoying these spirea branches I cut from my neighbors bush. I love being able to create an unruly arrangement from foraging bush or tree branches. It is free and it looks so raw and organic which just adds a completely different vibe to the space as opposed to a very uniform floral arrangement can sometimes feel uptight. Sleeping in, in our new bedding I took a chance on the Casa Luna bath towels and really fell in love with them and how they washed up so I figured when I was on the hunt for a new duvet cover I should try their bedding line and I am not disappointed. I love the linen and the lived in look it provides. It has ties in all the corners to hold in my comforter and it has such great weight to it that it doesnt slide down in your sleep. Plus, how dreamy is this color with our rug?! These pants from Old Navy and this jacket I found in the Target sale section. I love perusing the sale section and it is always such a score when you land something great for half the original price! I know we are moving into warmer days so this jacket is only great for a bit longer but the color was amazing and I know I will love it come fall as well. 10/10 for these pants as well. They are light weight and I love the look of this tie dye, some of them are not for me but this one I really enjoy. I think these pants will also be perfect postpartum. My spring scent With every season I change up my perfume. Smell is a memory trigger so I really enjoy when I pull out my seasonal scent. It opens my memory to last spring and the wonderful moments I had. I know next spring when I wear this I will be reminded of this sweet time in waiting and the arrival of our son. This sweet photo I recreated of my mom This past Sunday was Mother's Day and now that I am fortunate enough to become a mom I have a better understanding of love and I thank my mom for teaching me that. The photo of her was on 12/9/92 only 5 days before she had me. I snapped my photo 5/9/21 only 9 days away from hopefully having our son. I'd say if my hair was darker, we would be twins! Lastly a few random snaps.. My newest nightstand addition, this marble and glass compote I found during the Granville Barn hop. It is such a cute way of holding my everyday jewelry. The park path we like to walk is in full bloom and I am busy trying to walk this baby out and get to enjoy these spring wildflowers all at the same time! Update on #projectongibson the painters have painted and we are moving on to the next step, flooring! What a beautiful week it has been! Cheers to another spring week, may it be filled with lots of love and many blooms in life! xx. k
- 5.21 elevating the everyday
everything, in time. It is baby month! I cannot believe we have made it to this point. There is a lot leading up to the last month and now that it is here I am so anxious and impatiently waiting his arrival. I have decided to try to let go of my control and trust in God's plan and timing for our babe to come. Thus, everything, in time. It will come. Things to celebrate this month: 1 147th Kentucky Derby 2 Brandon's Birthday *the big 31 - last year was squashed by covid so I have big plans for this year* 5 Cinco De Mayo 9 Mothers Day 18 Baby's Due Date 31 Memorial Day Just for fun: 25 National Wine Day *celebrating with a long awaited glass if he has arrived* 28 National Burger Day Local: 7-8 Granville Barn Hop *truly a favorite of mine to snag some great vintage pieces and get inspired* Since this is "baby month" and I am totally feeling all of 9 months pregnant I am going to try to relax and not overload my to do list. I am lowering my expectations of what I can get done and am trying to spend more down time, especially with Brandon. However, if I can get around to these things here is what is on my May agenda... - deep clean the house - arrange and order prints (finish gallery wall - this requires a trip to ikea) - catch up on all laundry - plant flowers in garden boxes - work on design for a client - prep for the next month ahead! Inspo for the month In May things are starting to bud and slowly begin to bloom, there are many rain showers and the landscape is blanketed with a fresh new green that has finally submerged from a long cold winter. xx. k
- Nursery Reveal!
The time has finally come! I am so excited to have completed this project. It was a pretty big undertaking for being 6-8 months pregnant but every step of the way was completely worth it knowing that this sweet space is for our son. It's hard to believe that in just a few short weeks we will welcome him home. As much as designing this nursery has been for me, I truly do hope this space is comfortable and inspiring for our boy to grow up in. I hope its a space for him to grow into and call his own. I hope he knows the hard work and love his mom and dad have poured into it to make it special for him. Ok before the water works start, let's take a look back at what this space used to be. This space was a bit of a mess. It needed some major electrical work, plaster repair and wallpaper removal and more! So since then we have updated this space with proper electric, repaired walls, added millwork and crown, fresh paint, restored the doors and added new wallpaper. All we are missing is our little man! We are so happy with how this space turned out. It is more than just a pretty design, its a room that is full of memories and many more to be created! xx. kasey
- seasons | IN NATURE & OF LIFE
Every season is one of becoming, but not always one of blooming. Be gracious with your ever-evolving self Seasons, I love them, even with my love hate relationship with Ohio. I do wish for warmer days in the winter and cooler days in the summer. I wish I lived closer to the beach or could wear a light jacket all year, I wish I could see flowers bloom longer. But, if that were the case I would miss out on the beautiful change of seasons. I would miss out on the changing colors of the leaves, the blanket of snow that covers the ground, the gray rainy April and the long summer days that end with cotton candy color sky's. I long for the different seasons. It is an excuse for me to shift myself. Metaphorically I look at it as a change in seasons of my own life too, which helps me grow. With every season I shift my life with different inspiration. This will set the tone for the way I dress, the way I cook, the way I spend my free time, the way our house is decorated. It's like I get to be 4 different versions of myself in one year. Winter brings a lot of red wine, comfort soups, crafts and early night movies, over sized sweaters and games by the fire. Spring brings rain coats, braided hair, white wine with cold salads and flowers, a feeling of a fresh start, dirty gardening hands and crisp early mornings. Summer is a season of long sun drenched days, tan lines and bare feet, picnics and a lot of grilled food, cold beers, country music and ice cream runs. Fall, my favorite, is a reminder that things do not bloom all year, a time to shift and layer with harvest and good company, cold bon fire nights and antique hunting. I love the contrast that each season brings. It is so inspiring to be able to live differently throughout the year. So with each new season I am going to post my thoughts on it. My favorite things to do, the different celebrations and how to embrace the season before us. We all have that favorite season and the one we hope goes by quick but regardless they always come. Its so important to be able to enjoy each season as they are, that is what gives us time to plant those seeds in our own life and bloom when it is time. Each season prepares us for where it is going, why the last one had to end and what to look forward to for the next one coming. Let it ground you in the truth that every single shifting season brings new life with it. Another chance. An experience you are here for. Be aware of what season you are in and give yourself the grace to be there So when a new season rolls around be on the look out for my post full of inspiration on how to fully embrace and celebrate each one. Subscribe to my emails and it will directly be sent to your inbox at the start of each new season! xx. k
- Another Word Tile!
When I had the opportunity to design a space that was an old home being turned into a salon I was so excited! My wheels were spinning and my design took off. My client was looking for an all around experience when her guests visit the salon and to me that includes the bathroom as well! Which easily became one of my favorite parts of the entire design, it was a space to be bold, creative and provide an experience! Here is my design: I proposed this to my client and she loved it.. including the best part, the tile! This provides an opportunity for snapping a photo or two and sharing it on social media. Sure its a bathroom in a salon but every detail counts especially when you have a design that makes you stand out. So, since Brandon and I had already laid our word tile and knew how to do it, we stepped in to help out and install the tile in the salon bathroom. Here is a before photo of the bathroom.. its a great space just begging for love and personality. So just like the last word tile we did I needed to figure out how to lay out the words, the sizing and adjust it if needed before popping out the white tiles Once we did a dry fit in the bathroom I went ahead and laid out my tile sheets and popped out the white tiles Once the floor was prepped with concrete board and mortar it was time to lay the tile! Once we got to the words you have to work quickly to press in (gently) the black tiles! So excited about how this was turning out! Even without the grout it is such a fun tile perfect for a salon! And here is the after! This space was so much fun to design and it came together so well. It has already been such a hit in the salon, a space people want to take selfies and share on social. A sweet reminder that you are beautiful * A big thank you to Ali Butler with Collective Beauty in Granville, OH for the wonderful opportunity to help design such a special space! Here is to much success and beautiful years ahead! xx. k
- The last weeks
37 weeks pregnant. We are nearing the end of time being just the two of us. I am so excited for this new adventure of becoming parents. This new love I will have for my husband, this new bond and daily experience that we are blessed to have is so exciting. I feel beyond grateful for this opportunity, it is something we both have dreamed and prayed for. The last 9 months of growing baby has been wild. So much change in my body, in our relationship and faith. But, life is constantly changing and that is good. That means we are growing. And the best thing about being married, we are changing together, growing together, learning together. I know the best is yet to come with welcoming this sweet boy into the world and becoming his mom & dad. Babe, we are ready for you, ready for you to rock our world in alllll the best ways. xx. k
- #ProjectOnGibson
What better way to end this pregnancy than with another project? LOL The timing is less than ideal but that is typically how it goes, so when this lemon came up as an opportunity for us, we grabbed the Titos made a drink rolled up our sleeves and jumped right in. This sweet little home is 3 bedrooms, 2 full bath and about 1300 sqft. After our last project we swore up and down we wouldn't take on another where we did all the work ourselves and with me being a few months shy of giving birth it only made sense to partner up with someone who had teams to handle the reno! So I got to sit back, design, source and order! Here is the vision for the space. And here is a before photo of the space as we bought it Ok, it is hard to see it now but with the right amount of squinting and creativity I can see it come to life! This is the kitchen space that needs completely re-worked. We are taking down the wall that was built up to allow for a big island and open the space up to the living. Here is a rough sketch of the new kitchen layout and design for custom island and hood There is a lot of work that needs to be done with many more details we cannot miss. This project is very exciting because it is practically building from nothing. It's a complete design from the studs which allows for more creativity but also means I have a tighter budget to work in. Challenge accepted! Our hope is to bring life back to this neglected house for someone to make and call it home. Follow along on Instagram for more updates :) xx. k
- Easter Tablescape
One of my favorite holidays to decorate for and host is Easter. I love the brunch, fresh flowers and warmer weather! There is less pressure to have an extravagant feast or provide gifts, it truly is just all about spending quality time with loved ones and praising Jesus! Here is how I styled the table this year Instead of the typical napkin rings I decided to make bunny ears out of the napkins instead. It was a really simple way to switch things up and get a little extra creative. Here is a video of how I did it! Hope everyone has a very Happy Easter and is excited for spring and the warmer weather ahead! xx. k
- DIY clouds
When I was getting inspired to create my concept board for our sons nursery I kept coming across photos that were really whimsical. That was a vibe I wanted to give to the room. With the cloud wallpaper I intend to hang on the ceiling I knew I had to get some clouds! Now I looked all over the place for a DIY and where to purchase clouds. Nothing really struck me. So I figured I would make my own. Here are the supplies you'll need: - Skewers (I used three in each) - Foam ball or in my case an orange dollar store pumpkin - Spray paint* (only if your foam ball isn't white - I sprayed my pumpkins white and the spray paint kind of ate through so I left them a little orange hued and figured I would just really have to cover them well with poly fill.) - Poly-fil (I used one 12 oz bag for 3 clouds) - Hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks! - Fishing wire - Scissors Here is how I created my clouds: I cut about an inch hole in the top of my ball. Mine happens to be hollow which is an advantage for me. If yours isn't I would suggest hollowing out at least an inch down. Next I poked my skewers through my ball. I used three and placed them at different lengths and heights to allow me to build my cloud into a more natural shape. This step is a little tricky. I took the skewer closest to the top (why you should have about an inch down hollowed) so you can tie the fishing wire to the skewer. This allows for you to hang your cloud and for it to be sturdy and straight. I left my line long (about two feet) until it is time for me to hang it so I have enough line to hang at the perfect height. looks cute, right? hahah 4. Now is the final step. Heat that glue gun up and make sure you have plenty of glue sticks, I went through a lot! Start by just pulling your poly-fil out of the bag with no rhyme or reason. Apply the hot glue to the poly-fil and attach it to your object. 5. Continue all the way around the sphere - top, bottom, sides. Then start to add around the skewers. Shape your cloud as you desire. Make it whimsical. The idea is to remember this is a cloud not a cotton ball! Make them all different sized and shaped! 6. Once you hang your cloud you have an opportunity to pull on some of the poly fill to adjust the height and shape. Add more if needed. Here is a quick video of how I made my cloud! Happy DIY-ing! I think these clouds are such a fun backdrop not only for a nursery but a themed birthday, wedding or photoshoot! They add such a playful and whimsical touch. I cant wait to finish his room and hang them! xx. kasey
- Chicken Avocado Burgers
Its the new year and with that comes typically a change in our diet. After the holiday sweets and treats its always a good feeling to cleanse and jump start the new year with healthier eating habits! This recipe is perfect for that all while still craving a burger! This is one of our go to recipes in the summer as well, perfect for grilling out without feeling weighed down! As a side we roast Brussel sprouts or broccoli, or if we are feeling sassy some waffle fries! Some of our favorite toppings are arugula, red onion, mayo, mustard, pickle, cheese (the spreadable laughing cow is great!) and we pile this all on a pretzel bun! If you are watching those carbs, go bunless or choose a lettuce wrap! The different variations to styling your burger are endless and are completely up to you and your taste buds! Hope you enjoy this recipe! If you try it out - tag me @projectonmain and share the different way you enjoyed this recipe! xx. kasey
